Spring is sprung!

After what’s felt like an eternity of grey skies and ‘orrible weather, things are finally starting to thaw. Birds are singing, daffodils are popping up everywhere, and most importantly, the sun is making a welcome reappearance. 19ºC in early March! That’s right, folks, it’s officially BBQ season!

There’s something truly magical about the first proper sunny day after a long winter. The air feels lighter, everyone seems a little happier, and the irresistible urge to fire up the grill takes hold. And let’s be honest, who can resist the promise of smoky flavours and al fresco dining?

But before you start dreaming of perfectly caramelised burgers and juicy sausages, it’s crucial to give your trusty gas barbecue some TLC after its winter hibernation. Safety and cleanliness are paramount for a successful and enjoyable BBQ season.

First things first: Safety Check!

• Gas Connections:
  
  • Start by checking the gas cylinder and regulator for any signs of damage, such as cracks or rust.
  • Ensure the gas hose is securely connected and free from any kinks or splits.
  • Perform a leak test by applying a soapy water solution to the connections. If bubbles appear, there’s a leak! Tighten the connections or replace any damaged parts.

  • Wipe down the interior surfaces with a damp cloth.
• Exterior:
  
  • Wipe down the exterior of the barbecue with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
  • Polish any stainless steel surfaces for a gleaming finish.
• Grease Trap:
  
  • Empty and clean the grease trap regularly to prevent flare-ups and unpleasant odours.
• Final checks:
  
  • After cleaning, reassemble all the parts and double-check that everything is secure.
  • Run the barbecue on high heat for a few minutes to burn off any remaining residue.
